The world is looking very different at the moment and for lots of people that is scary and for lots of people it is not. Either way, as we see local shops and businesses closed all around our communities it is pretty obvious it is not business as usual but we do all have a role to play.

We are respecting the tremendous commitment that is being shown by the emergency services (and their families) in these days and the days ahead, we are staying home and when we do venture out it is at a 2m distance from others. We strongly encourage you to do the same.

We have received so much support from our customers, our friends and followers on Instagram and Facebook these days and some of the main questions we are getting at the moment are answered below:

How has Covid-19 affected you?

Well, we are lucky. We don’t have a large rental premise, we don’t have hundreds of staff and the stress of worrying about their well being. We don’t have massive overheads to manage. However, the vast majority of our customers are schools and preschools so overnight we watched as our customers closed down. These are wonderful people who do incredible work with our young children. They have been tremendously supportive of our young business and I am heartbroken for them, even though we all know it is the right thing to do.

Unfortunately, as a design and manufacturing business, we have to carry large volumes of stock. We had plans for new designs which we had hoped to take delivery of in April. All of that has to go on hold- tiny inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. We also have an obligation to our partners to ensure they are safe and also that we are able to continue paying and supporting them as they have, and continue, to support us. We don’t know what the future holds but, like everyone else we are doing our best.

Are you accepting orders?

Yes. We are an online business so we don’t have a physical shop and all the concerns that go social distancing at this time. All our stock is stored safely and now that it is just me packaging orders it seems all those years of mandatory hand hygiene training in my health care job has paid off. As long as there are still postal and courier services we will keep processing orders in a timely way. There may be a small delay with our normal express delivery service so please bear with us.

How can I get in touch?

We have the same challenges as many families between work and childcare these days and so it will take us longer to reply to emails, answer Facebook DM’s or queries on Instagram but you are welcome to email us as normal on customercare@mermaidsanddragons.com, just be patient with us. We plan on taking long walks in the wide-open spaces outdoors, maintain our social distance and take some time with our children to make positive memories of this unexpected time we have together.
